It would be appreciated if a reply to the enclosed

semi-official correspondence could be expedited as the Naval

authorities at Hong Kong are pressing for a decision on the

points raised. The Commodore has been informed that the matter

is under correspondence with the Colonial Office and instructed to

ask the Hong Kong Government to suspend demands for payment of

the local tax without prejudice to the ultimate decision.
